THE HICKORY HORNED DEVILS

When I was with the Hickory Horned Devils we had our own blend of modern old-timey traditional country-folk-bluegrass-Irish and original music. We played mostly around Hillsborough County, NH. Inspired by bands like "Old Crow Medicine Show, The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Dirk Powell, Bruce Molsky, Crooked Still, Norman Blake, Chance McCoy and the like, our music was played with traditional instruments like the fiddle, acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin and upright bass as well as some unique instruments like the 3-stringed viola (Kontra) and the banjo-ukulele. We loved to play and sing the sounds of traditional southern Appalachian music with a modern twist of an Americana band. We played our own unique style of music, which often included giving popular contemporary songs a traditional acoustic sound.  Band members included; Britt Lundgren - fiddle, Will Platt on the mandolin, acoustic guitar, and Kontra, and sang lead and harmony vocals. Phil Clarner who sang lead and harmony vocals, picked acoustic guitar, banjo and mandolin, Ray Ciemny who played claw hammer banjo, banjo ukulele, harmonica, and sings, and Larry Houghton who plucked upright bass, sang a few songs, and sang back up and harmony vocals. We later added Jenn Albee on lead vocals.

The Horned Devils played private parties, barn dances, restaurants, bars, weddings, festivals, etc. around Southern NH and beyond. They still play today, check them out at https://www.hickoryhorneddevils.net/
